NowThis Releases Video with Congressman Steven Horsford on the Personal Toll of Gun Violence
WASHINGTON, D.C. — As America mourns the victims of two mass shootings in one week, NowThis published a powerful video interview with Congressman Steven Horsford about the personal impact of gun violence on his family and the need for gun safety reform.

The video can be seen here.
"My father was shot and killed a block away from where I grew up. I know the personal toll of gun violence, and I know how desperately our communities are calling out for change," said Congressman Steven Horsford. "Common-sense background checks and gun safety laws are supported by an overwhelming majority of the American people. We need to center the voices of those who have been affected by the pain so they can shape the policy."
When Congressman Horsford was a freshman in college, his father, Gary Leon Shelton, was shot and killed during a convenience store robbery. In the wake of the death, Congressman Horsford returned home from college to take care of his family. This personal tragedy has shaped Congressman Horsford's work to stop gun deaths and keep communities safe from the scourge of gun violence.
This month, Congressman Horsford voted to pass H.R. 8 and H.R. 1446, common-sense background check bills that would prevent firearms from reaching dangerous hands. The bills passed the House with bipartisan support, and are now under consideration in the Senate.
