Rep. Horsford Joins OpenAI, Rep. Ro Khanna, and College of Southern Nevada (CSN) To Expand AI Workforce Training in North Las Vegas

Event will connect students, workers, and small businesses with AI education and tools needed to compete in the digital economy
NORTH LAS VEGAS, NV — On April 24th, U.S. Representative Steven Horsford (NV-04) will join OpenAI, Rep. Ro Khanna (CA-17) and the College of Southern Nevada for an OpenAI Academy event focused on expanding access to AI education and preparing Nevada's students and workers for high-paying careers in the digital economy.
The event reflects Rep. Horsford's longstanding commitment to ensuring that the working families, and first-generation workers of Nevada's 4th District are not left behind as technology reshapes the American workforce. As chair of the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation's Tech and Innovation Brain Trust, which launched its work in Las Vegas, Rep. Horsford has made closing the technology skills gap a central priority, bringing together community leaders, workforce organizations, and industry partners to create training and learning opportunities.
"The communities I represent don't lack talent, ambition, or drive. What they've lacked is investment," said Rep. Horsford. "And that is something we have the power to change. The AI economy is being built right now, and the workers and families of North Las Vegas deserve to be part of building it. That's what today is about, and that's what I'm going to keep fighting for."
At the heart of the event is a fireside chat featuring Rep. Horsford alongside U.S. Representative Ro Khanna (D-CA) and Chris Lehane of OpenAI, moderated by Clarissa Cota, Vice President of External Relations and Campus Operations at the College of Southern Nevada. The conversation will focus on how to connect students, workers, and communities with the skills and tools needed to succeed in the AI economy.
The College of Southern Nevada is a fitting home for this conversation. CSN's Westside Education and Training Center offers accelerated, stackable credential programs in IT, healthcare, manufacturing, and more, designed to connect workers to good-paying jobs quickly without requiring years of schooling. Rep. Horsford helped secure almost $7 million in funding for the facility.
It is exactly the kind of public-private partnership Rep. Horsford has championed as a model for workforce development in the AI era.
Throughout the day, OpenAI will also host three hands-on training sessions to help faculty, students, and small businesses learn how to use AI tools including ChatGPT — with a goal of growing and scaling this partnership across Nevada in the months ahead.
