Statement On Passage Of Climate Action Now Act

May 2, 2019

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Congressman Steven Horsford (NC-04) released the following statement applauding the House of Representatives' passage of H.R. 9, the Climate Action Now Act.

"Climate change is real, human-made, and it threatens the safety of our children and children's children," said Congressman Horsford. "Nevada has already committed to increasing its renewable portfolio standard and helping our nation meet its obligations under the Paris Climate Accords. The Climate Action Now Act lays the groundwork for the bold, transformative national effort we need to protect our environment and ensure the U.S. leads on addressing the impacts of climate change."

As State Senate Majority Leader, Congressman Horsford authored the Clean Energy Jobs Initiative, which funded training and placement for jobs in clean energy and energy efficiency, and he helped pass a bill increasing Nevada's renewable energy standard to 25 percent by 2025.

The Climate Action Now Act would prohibit any federal funds from being used to take any action to advance the withdrawal of the U.S. from the Paris Agreement. It would also call on the President to develop and make public a plan for how the United States will meet the pollution reduction goals submitted to the world in 2015.
