Statement On Passage Of Universal Background Checks Legislation
WASHINGTON, D.C - Congressman Steven Horsford (NV-04) released the following statement following the House of Representatives passage of H.R. 8, the Bipartisan Background Checks Act of 2019.
"For too long, Congress has refused to pass common-sense legislation to reduce gun violence and save lives," said Congressman Horsford. "I'm voting for this bill on behalf of Nevadans like Edgar Poe, a 13-year old boy who was fatally shot in the back while walking home from a party. I'm also voting for it on behalf of Nevadans like Bonita Armstrong, a mother of three who was viciously gunned down by her husband, in front of their children. I lost my own father to gun violence when I was 19. So I understand the pain and trauma that grips families after losing a family member to a senseless gun death. I'm proud to vote for this universal background checks bill that will help save countless Nevadans from feeling that same pain."
Congressman Horsford is an original co-sponsor of H.R. 8.
