Statement On President Trump’s Decision To Declare A National Emergency

February 14, 2019

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Congressman Steven Horsford released the following statement in response to the White House's announcement that the President will declare a national emergency to build a border wall.

"The President doesn't have the authority to perform an end-run around Congress. And to be clear, his unconstitutional actions threaten to take money away from drought relief projects, flood recovery, construction at Nellis Air Force Base, and local national security activities that keep Nevada families safe," said Congressman Horsford. "I presided over the House of Representatives' vote to provide $1.6 billion in funding for smart effective homeland security."

"I remain focused on addressing issues in my district from lowering the cost of prescription drugs to preventing gun violence, to growing the economy. and raising wages for middle class families."
