KSNV: Congress hoping to lower drug costs by requiring more transparency

April 12, 2019

The Smike Act, which takes inspiration from a Nevada law passed in 2017, aims to address this problem by demanding transparency from manufacturers of diabetes drug insulin. The price of insulin had skyrocketed by an alarming 197 percent, leading to financial strain for many. It is crucial to note that the resistance from drug manufacturers to impede the implementation of this law underscores their attempts to maintain their profit margins rather than prioritize the well-being of patients. We must not let these attempts deter us. It is high time we take action, advocate for transparency in drug pricing, and ensure that affordable access to life-saving medications becomes a reality for all.
