Congressman Horsford Calls TSA Workers Denied Paychecks By Shutdown

January 15, 2019

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Today, Congressman Steven Horsford (NV-04) called Las Vegas-area Transportation Security Administration (TSA) employees who have been denied a paycheck because of the government shutdown. The agents, who work at McCarran International Airport, are amongst the 51,000 TSA employees throughout the country currently working without pay or placed on furlough.

On the call, Congressman Horsford informed the TSA employees of his intention to co-sponsor the Federal Employee Retroactive Pay Fairness Act (H.R. 67). Introduced by Congressman Don Beyer (VA-08), this legislation would ensure that federal employees receive retroactive pay for the duration of the government shutdown, regardless of furlough status. More than 3,500 Nevada-based federal workers are currently being denied pay as a result of the shutdown.

"I'm hearing from individuals across Southern Nevada who are feeling the pain of this senseless and irresponsible government shutdown," said Congressman Horsford. "I've voted for several bills reopening the government, and I'm proud to co-sponsor this legislation ensuring that Nevada's federal employees receive every penny that they are owed. Our state's working families shouldn't have to wonder whether they'll ever collect the pay they missed out on during the shutdown. This bill will guarantee they receive their full pay in a fair and timely manner."

Congressman Horsford voted to end the shutdown and fully fund the government on the first day of the 116th Congress. Last week, he also voted for several pieces of bipartisan legislation providing funding to every government agency and department affected by the shutdown.
