Congressman Horsford Named to Financial Services Committee for the 118th Congress
Powerful Panel’s Focus On Housing, Banking and Urban Development Important to Families in Nevada’s 4th Congressional District
WASHINGTON – Congressman Steven Horsford (NV-04) announced that he has been named to serve on the House Committee on Financial Services again in the 118th Congress. He previously served on the committee in the 113th Congress.
“It is an honor to serve on the House Financial Services Committee, which is laser-focused on the issues that matter to so many of my constituents, like access to public and private housing, banking and credit, economic stabilization and development in our communities. In this new committee, I will be able to deliver to the people of Nevada and help ensure equity and equality for our working families,” said Congressman Horsford. “I look forward to working with my fellow Democrats on the committee, as well as across the aisle, to lower costs, create better-paying jobs, make our communities safer, and defend our democracy and freedoms.”
Horsford added, “While the committee ratios forced me to take a step back from the Ways and Means Committee for the 118th Congress, I look forward to returning to the important work of that committee in the future.”
“I am pleased to welcome Congressman Horsford back to the Financial Services Committee,” said Ranking Member Maxine Waters. “Since arriving in Congress, Rep. Horsford has been a fierce advocate for underserved communities. I have no doubt that he will continue his long track record of advocacy on the Committee by standing up for our nation’s consumers and holding bad actors accountable.”
“Our organization has had the pleasure of working with Congressman Horsford on several major initiatives bolstering economic development efforts across the State of Nevada. Whether establishing and capitalizing a community development financial institution, launching innovative support programs through the State Small Business Credit Initiative, expanding the supply of childcare providers, or leveraging public capital to attract private investments, Congressman Horsford has been a consistent representative for his constituents, supporting communities on the issues that matter most. The ancillary effects are the same, he is positively impacting families, communities, and the economy. I am thankful for the vision and leadership of Congressman Horsford and look forward to working together on future endeavors,” said Nic Steele, Executive Director of Access Community Capital, Inc.
“Having Congressman Horsford sit on such an impactful committee, alongside an affordable housing champion like Ranking Member Maxine Waters, will be a huge win for Southern Nevada. Our housing crisis makes it clear that Nevada needs more access to housing finance, and to break down barriers to investment in affordable homes. Programs like our Family Self-Sufficiency project have made a positive impact on opportunities for home ownership and independence for Nevadans. Having a voice for these kinds of programs through Congressman Horsford, with his historical advocacy for affordable housing, will help us create even more pathways to homeownership,” said Lewis Jordan, Executive Director of the Southern Nevada Regional Housing Authority.
