Congressman Horsford Praises House Passage of American Dream and Promise Act
WASHINGTON, DC- Congressman Steven Horsford (NV-04) released the following statement following the passage of the American Dream and Promise Act of 2019 - legislation he cosponsored that will provide long-time immigrants with a pathway to citizenship.
"There are approximately 10,300 Dreamers living in Nevada's Fourth Congressional District. I've sat down with hundreds, if not thousands, of them over the years. " said Congressman Horsford. "Today, I voted for the Dream and Promise Act for families like Oscar Lopez who shared their story with me. These are families who have built their lives in this country and contribute to the fabric of our communities. It's time we put people over politics and do what's right."
The American Dream and Promise Act establishes a process for immigrants who are Dreamers and Temporary Protected Status (TPS) and Deferred Enforced Departure (DED) recipients to gain legal status in the United States. Dreamers are undocumented immigrants who were brought to the U.S. as minors and grew up in the country. TPS and DED are federal programs that protect individuals from countries with ongoing armed conflict, natural disasters, or other extreme conditions.
H.R. 6 received widespread national support by organizations including the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, American Federation of Labor and Congress of Industrial Organizations, and the American Civil Liberties Union. The American Dream and Promise Act was introduced to the House of Representatives in March of 2019.
