Congressman Steven Horsford Announces More Than $2 Million to Nevada for Emergency Food and Shelter Program

May 4, 2020

Las Vegas, Nev. -- Today, Congressman Steven Horsford (NV-04) announced that Nevada would receive $2,463,966 for the Emergency Food and Shelter program coordinated through the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) to assist with the needs of Nevadans in the coronavirus pandemic.

"During this unprecedented pandemic, our response must include a concentrated effort to assist those among us who are the most vulnerable, including those who are currently experiencing homelessness or who are unable to put food on the table for their families," Congressman Horsford said. "I voted to approve this funding to ensure that we are able to take care of every Nevadan, from providing a place to rest their heads safely, to ensuring they have enough to eat, to providing services that can assist in finding long-term housing solutions."

Congressman Horsford voted to authorize these funds in the Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security (CARES) Act for local social service organizations providing emergency assistance to people experiencing, or at risk of experiencing, hunger or homelessness.

In total, FEMA awarded $200 million in supplemental funding nationwide to the National Board for the Emergency Food and Shelter Program (EFSP). These funds can be utilized for a broad range of services, including mass shelter, mass feeding, food pantries and food banks, utility bill and rent/mortgage payments to prevent evictions or foreclosures and transition assistance from shelters to stable living conditions. The funding will be distributed in early June.

The breakdown by county of the funding can be found below:
