Congressman Steven Horsford Reintroduces the Relaunching America’s Workforce Act
WASHINGTON, D.C. — Congressman Steven Horsford has reintroduced the Relaunching America's Workforce Act as an original co-sponsor. This legislation, which was first introduced in the 116th Congress, would authorize $15 billion in funding to prevent layoffs and support job training to help workers re-enter the workforce.
"Since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, more than 800,000 Nevadans have filed for unemployment benefits and many low-income jobs have permanently disappeared. As Nevada begins our recovery from COVID-19, we must prevent further job loss and ensure that our most vulnerable workers have the resources to transition to new careers," said Congressman Steven Horsford. "After working for years to provide job training opportunities in Nevada, I know that our workforce is resilient and ready for the future. The Relaunching America's Workforce Act would prevent layoffs and train workers for new jobs in growing fields."
The Relaunching America's Workforce Act would provide $11 billion to state and local governments to support workers, employers, children, and adults who have been displaced or laid off as a result of the pandemic and are seeking jobs. These funds would also strengthen workplace training—including on-the-job training as well as apprenticeships—and career navigation support for those impacted by this pandemic.
The legislation would also provide $1 billion to expand the capacity of critical adult education providers, $1 billion in high-quality, work-based learning opportunities and education to prepare students for careers in high-skill, high-wage, or in-demand occupations, and $2 billion to restart the community college career training grant program to help employers find workers in local communities.
