Congressman Steven Horsford Votes to Secure Government Funding
Washington, D.C. — Congressman Steven Horsford (NV-04) voted today for a Concurrent Resolution to extend federal government funding through December 20 and keep the government open after the current stopgap funding law expires this week.
"Today, I voted to guarantee that our government and its many services will continue to be robustly funded while Congress continues budget negotiations for the next year," Congressman Horsford said.
"This vote will ensure our government remains open and provide much-needed budget certainty to families, businesses, and communities in Nevada and across the country that rely on our government for support, not only in the form of food assistance or public health programs, but also those enrolled in Medicare or Medicaid or those serving in our armed forces. I'm proud to join my colleagues in fighting to fund our priorities to protect the families we represent from another harmful shutdown."
In addition to a 3.1 percent raise for our armed forces, the resolution also ensures funding for Community Health Centers facilities and Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF).
The resolution will ensure funding for the upcoming 2020 Census count beginning in April.
"Funding the upcoming census effort will guarantee that Nevadans are all thoroughly counted and not underrepresented in the government or its future funding," Congressman Horsford said. "Nevada stands to lose nearly $1 billion over ten years if our state is not accurately counted in the census. Locking in necessary census funding helps my state and the constituents I have been elected to represent avoid being overlooked."
