Horsford Reappointed to House Ways & Means, Positioning Lawmaker to Champion Labor Rights, Housing Affordability & More on Most Powerful Committee in Congress

January 8, 2025

WASHINGTON – Congressman Steven Horsford (NV-04) was reappointed today to the prestigious House Ways & Means Committee, the oldest Congressional committee, and the only committee specifically named in the U.S. Constitution.

As Co-Chair of the Congressional Labor Caucus and Chief Deputy Whip of the Democratic Caucus, Horsford is uniquely positioned to advocate for working families and leadership priorities on this critical committee, which drives federal policy on taxes, healthcare, Social Security, Medicare, trade, as well as worker and family support. Congressman Horsford’s reappointment is a validation of his leadership serving residents of Nevada’s 4th Congressional District and working families across the country.

“I am deeply honored to be reappointed to the House Ways and Means Committee,” Rep. Horsford said. “I will continue fighting for Nevada’s working families on the issues that matter most to their pocketbooks and their wellbeing – securing Social Security, ensuring access to quality healthcare, and defending against Republican tax scams.

“For the people of Nevada’s 4th District, this means advocating to expand the Child Tax Credit, incentivizing homeownership, raising working wages, ending taxes on tips for service workers, and advancing renewable energy tax credits that create jobs and support small businesses.”

Congressman Horsford will use his position to protect the retirement security of the 143,642 Social Security beneficiaries in Nevada’s 4th District, most of whom rely on these benefits as their primary income source. He will continue to defend Medicare, ensuring that more than 140,000 Nevadans in the district who have paid into the system receive the healthcare they’ve earned.

As part of his duties on the committee, Congressman Horsford has been appointed to both the Health and Social Security Subcommittees. On the Health Subcommittee, he will focus on protecting and expanding the Affordable Care Act, Medicare, and Medicaid, while fighting to lower prescription drug prices and make healthcare more affordable for all Nevadans. In the Social Security Subcommittee, Horsford will work to safeguard the nation’s Social Security trust fund and stand against efforts to raise the retirement age or cut benefits.
