Horsford Votes Against GOP Cuts That Rob Nevadans of Economic Opportunities, Critical Support
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Steven Horsford (NV-04) today voted against Republican cuts to federal services and programs that support businesses and communities across Nevada.
The cuts include funding to critical economic development investments like the Economic Development Administration, Job Corps, AmeriCorps, the Minority Business Development Agency, the Community Service Employment for Older Americans, and the Department of Labor’s Women’s Bureau.
“Republicans just voted to take away economic opportunities that Nevada businesses and entrepreneurs rely on,” Rep. Horsford said. “Cutting these investments makes it harder to start a business; harder to invest in future growth; harder to hire more staff; and harder for our local economy to deliver for Nevada families.”
The legislation also undermines lifelines for disadvantaged communities, such as the Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program and the Interagency Council on Homelessness.
“These cuts will raise energy costs on Nevadans as we near the hottest months of the year,” Rep. Horsford continued. “Forcing seniors and vulnerable households to choose between the groceries and medications they need, and the electric bills that can keep them alive is not leadership – it’s an abdication of duty.”
The cuts, which were included in the Rescissions Act of 2025 (H.R. 4), passed in the House by a mere two-vote margin, with every Congressional Democrat voting against them. The bill now moves to the U.S. Senate for consideration.
