House Climate Crisis Action Plan Highlights Congressman Steven Horsford’s GEO Act

June 30, 2020

Washington, D.C. -- Today, the House Select Committee on the Climate Crisis unveiled a comprehensive congressional climate action framework, highlighting Congressman Steven Horsford's bill, the Geothermal Energy Opportunity (GEO) Act as an important tool in the effort to solve the climate crisis. The GEO Act would give geothermal energy companies an investment tax credit, encourage job creation and lower energy prices in Nevada's Fourth Congressional District while also shifting the state to a focus on renewable energy resources.

"Clean energy technology is key to fighting climate change. Geothermal energy is an emerging technology that can serve as a renewable energy option across the country, which will not only benefit our environment but also bring down costs for all Americans," Congressman Horsford said. "Climate change is an existential crisis that threatens our children's futures, and the futures of our children's children. As a member of the House Natural Resources Committee, I'm working to push Congress to take up the bold action that's needed to address the ever-growing threat of climate change and ameliorate the effects of human emissions and pollution. I am proud to have the Select Committee's support in those efforts, and for the GEO Act."

The Select Committee's plan would put the country on a path to net-zero carbon pollution by 2050, if not earlier. It would power economic recovery through clean energy investment and family-sustaining jobs, and address the legacy of environmental injustice harming America's low-income communities and communities of color.

"House Democrats recognize that we have the moral imperative to meet this moment with a bold climate action plan to reduce carbon pollution, create much-needed jobs to rebuild our economy, and tackle the systemic injustice of environmental racism head-on," said Rep. Kathy Castor, Chair of the Select Committee on the Climate Crisis.
