Statement from Congressman Horsford on the End of the War in Afghanistan

August 31, 2021

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Today, Congressman Steven Horsford (D-NV-04) issued the following statement on the end of the United States's 20-year military presence in Afghanistan.

"I will be forever grateful to the brave Americans who served our nation in Afghanistan. Nevada troops have played an essential role at every stage of the conflict, and they will continue to provide over-the-horizon support in the years to come. We should not forget their continued sacrifice.

"Today, our nation continues to mourn the 13 heroes killed on August 26, 2021. By ending our mission in Afghanistan, President Biden has pulled thousands of troops out of harm's way.

"Right now, my priority is the safety of the U.S. citizens and allies who remain in Afghanistan. The Biden administration must put forward a concrete plan to ensure their safe evacuation.

"In the months to come, Congress will have tough discussions about the decisions that four commanders-in-chief have made in Afghanistan. Americans deserve a transparent and honest account of our nation's longest war."
