WASHINGTON — Nevada will receive $89 million this year as part of a $20 billion allotment for public transit upgrades and improvements that were included in the bipartisan infrastructure law, administration officials said Wednesday.

Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg told reporters on a conference call that the $20 billion is the "largest investment in public transit in our nation's history."

Nevada Rep. Steven Horsford (D) introduced a bill that would provide a $300 monthly tax credit to offset historically high gas prices, his office announced on Wednesday.

It's called the Supporting Americans from Vehicle Energy Costs (SAVE) Act.

WASHINGTON – Nevada lawmakers said they were deeply moved Wednesday by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, whose virtual address to Congress included a renewed plea for more humanitarian aid and military weapons to stop the ruthless three-week old Russian invasion.

Zelenskyy used graphic video to show the dire conditions and deaths in his country as Russian forces attacked apartment complexes, maternity wards and other civilian targets.

Lawmakers left with their emotions raw.

LAS VEGAS (KSNV) — Three members of Congress from Nevada have joined a push to raise the threshold for reporting winnings on casino slot machines.

U.S. Reps. Dina Titus, Steven Horsford and Mark Amodei, plus two other representatives from Pennsylvania and Maryland, have introduced the Shifting Limits on Thresholds, or SLOT, Act.

Currently, when a casino player wins $1,200 or more on a slot machine, the machine must be taken out of service temporarily and the player must fill out a W-2G tax reporting form, per federal regulation.

LAS VEGAS (KSNV) — Russian President Vladimir Putin on Thursday announced a military operation in Ukraine and warned other countries that any attempt to interfere with the Russian action would lead to "consequences they have never seen."

As Putin spoke, big explosions were heard in Kyiv, Kharkiv and other areas of Ukraine.

U.S. President Joe Biden denounced the "unprovoked and unjustified" attack on Ukraine and said the world will "hold Russia accountable."

Nevada's leaders have also issued statements Wednesday evening after the attack.

NORTH LAS VEGAS (KTNV) — The Las Vegas valley is coming together to honor the seven family members who died in a horrific crash last weekend during a vigil on Sunday in their memory.

Minister Stretch Sanders organized the vigil in an attempt to merge communities from all backgrounds into one. Unity is the message, from all races, ethnicities and faiths.

When Erika Washington was giving birth on three separate occasions, her doctors would yell at her or contradict her, saying she was not in labor and instead give her an Ambien.

She felt intimidated to ask questions.

"We have war stories," Washington, executive director of Make It Work Nevada, said during a recent listening session about Black maternal mortality with Nevada Democratic Rep. Steven Horsford. "I never thought about the fact that it really shouldn't have been that way. I really shouldn't have had all of this trauma."

U.S. Rep. Steven Horsford, D-Nev., and House Ways and Means Committee Chairman Richard Neal, D-Mass., will hold a news conference 10 a.m. Thursday at the Nevada Energy Office to highlight the $38 million Nevada will receive from the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act to expand the state's electric vehicle charging network.

They will discuss the role the funding will play in speeding up the adoption of electric vehicles, reducing greenhouse gas emissions and meeting Nevada's climate goals, Horsford's office said.

The Pirate blue and gold was worn on Capitol Hill today. On Thursday, Dec. 9, Congressman Steven Horsford donned a specially-made Pirate football jersey and wore it in to his office in the Cannon House Office Building.

It was the final settlement on a friendly wager made last month between the Congressman and Clark County Commissioner Marilyn Kirkpatrick over the outcome of the NIAA Division 3A State Championship game played on Nov. 18. The game, which was played in Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, pitted the Pirates against their age-old rivals the Virgin Valley Bulldogs.
