Clark County Commission Chairwoman Marilyn Kirkpatrick on Thursday drew a parallel between the sluggish rollout of vaccines to how local officials administered COVID-19 testing: Start small and then ramp up.

U.S Rep. Steven Horsford vowed to band with other members of Nevada's congressional delegation to get more pandemic relief to the state, especially doses of the COVID-19 vaccine.

The details are in the works, but Horsford, D-North Las Vegas, said the will is there.

After Nevada lawmakers met recently with the White House COVID response team, it is clear "we have steady, competent leadership, and they are available to us and they are working to meet our needs," Horsford said.

Southern Nevada seniors who lack access to a computer or the know-how to navigate the web can pick up the phone to schedule an appointment to receive the COVID-19 vaccine, according to Clark County Commission Chairwoman Marilyn Kirkpatrick. The toll-free number is 1-800-401-0946. The line is open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. seven days a week.

She said the county is working with its senior centers to help identify individuals who need the vaccine, adding those who are homebound present unique challenges.
