“During today’s hearing, Acting Director Young demonstrated an unparalleled understanding of the budget process and a deep commitment to America’s working families,” said Congressman Steven Horsford. “I was glad to have the opportunity to speak with her about key priorities for Nevada’s Fourth District, including community violence intervention and workforce development, and I look forward to our continued work to build back better for Nevada families.”

In the hearing, Congressman Horsford asked Acting Director Young about funding allocations for Community Violence Intervention (CVI) strategies, which deploy community leaders to intervene in disputes before they spiral into gun violence. President Biden’s budget requests $200 million in discretionary resources to support CVI initiatives, with an additional $5 billion to provide long-term support from 2023-2029. In her response, Acting Director Young praised Congressman Horsford’s leadership against gun violence and emphasized the importance of federal support for wraparound services that prevent violence and keep communities safe.

In further questioning, Congressman Horsford asked Acting Director Young how the Biden administration will ensure that the $1.27 billion requested for workforce development is equitably distributed to meet the needs of workers. Acting Director Young noted the proposed $100 million funding increase for registered apprenticeships in President Biden’s budget and highlighted his executive order promoting equity in federally-supported programs.
