Congressman Steven Horsford Congratulates Nevada Educator and National Teacher of the Year Juliana Urtubey

May 6, 2021

NORTH LAS VEGAS, NEV. — Today, Congressman Steven Horsford congratulated Nevada educator Juliana Urtubey for being selected as the 2021 Council of Chief State School Officers (CCSSO) National Teacher of the Year. Ms. Urtubey, who is also the 2021 Nevada Teacher of the Year, works as an elementary education and special education instructor at Kermit R. Booker, Sr. Innovative Elementary School, in the heart of Nevada's Fourth Congressional District.

"I am thrilled to congratulate Juliana Urtubey and the Booker Elementary community on her well-deserved selection as National Teacher of the Year," said Congressman Steven Horsford. "Ms. Urtubey is a powerful advocate for her students who has earned the nickname "Ms. Earth" for her efforts to beautify Booker Elementary through murals and gardens. Over the last several months, she has worked with my office to raise awareness about the educational, social, and emotional needs of our children during the pandemic. She is a shining example of the dedicated teachers who inspire Nevada students every day, and I am deeply proud of her work."
