I'm honored to represent Caribbean Americans in Congress, including my mother from Trinidad. Please join me in celebrating Caribbean American Heritage Month, when we honor Caribbean Americans' positive impact on our communities.
This Republican default on our debt would:
-Kill about 7,000 jobs in NV-04 alone. Nationwide, a default could kill more than 7 million jobs.
-Jeopardize Social Security payments for 87,000 families in NV-04.
-Put health benefits at risk for 305,000 people in NV-04 who rely on Medicare, Medicaid, or Veterans Affairs health coverage.
Here in Nevada, a debt default will threaten the healthcare of 309,000 people, strip food assistance from 13,000 women & children, eliminate preschool & child care for 1,800 kids, & more. This is about paying our bills. Doing that minimum can't be considered a compromise.
3 years after the death of George Floyd Jr., we mourn him and acknowledge the need for better policing. Join me in pushing for real solutions that hold those who mistreat people accountable. Together, we can reduce crime, save lives, and break the cycle of violence.
I was honored to help document the story of the Montford Point Marines, the first Black Americans to enlist in the Marine Corps, through an interview with Henry Franklin Jackson & the family of Isaac McMickens. Let's ensure their stories are preserved for generations to come.
I emphasize the need for bipartisan efforts to address gun violence and advocate for measures to keep our communities safe due to the alarming rates of mass shootings occurring in our country. I also acknowledge the historical injustices faced by African Americans and support the idea of reparations as a means of addressing systemic discrimination.
I was grateful for the opportunity to join The Laura Coates Show and discuss defending our democracy, fighting for justice, the need for immigration reform, and more.
I highlight the deficiencies in supervisory practices and management's failure to address glaring issues and engage in proper risk management, emphasizing the urgency of raising the debt limit to avoid a catastrophic economic collapse. Congress should prioritize managing the immediate crisis rather than focusing solely on examining individual banks.
