I am glad to see the large-scale investments in taking care of our service members in President Biden's FY24 budget by increasing service member compensation, launching Universal pre-kindergarten at all Department of Defense Education Activity schools, and continuing to combat sexual assault and harassment in the services. I believe it is critically important to support policies that ensure our forces can work as a cohesive team and that means addressing disparities that affect our military service members of color and our women service members.

Banks will only continue if the sense of risk within the financial system persists. Uninsured depositors are leaving our mid-sized Banks because they feel that their money is safer elsewhere, even as these Banks show continued strength and sound financial footing. Deposit Insurance is crucial for many of my constituents to get a sense of peace of mind and we cannot have the perception of a two-tiered banking system in this country where only the largest banks are protected.

The majority of my constituents back home in Nevada want us to focus on issues around food security, helping people keep a roof over their heads, and making sure that we are implementing the bills that we passed last Congress, that create good-paying jobs that help small businesses grow.

I'm so excited to have a leader like Congressman Maxwell Frost leading on the issues of gun safety. He represents the generation that has been affected the most by gun violence every single day and the mass shootings that have occurred. Because of his legislation and other measures like it, we are going to work hard to keep all of our communities safe. I look forward to sponsoring your bill and helping get it across the finish line.

I want to honor the life and career of Detective Herman Moody, who passed away on February 25th at the age of 98. Herman Moody was the first black police officer in the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department. He attended Las Vegas high school and afterward honorably served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.

It is imperative to acknowledge the indispensable role military academies play in producing upcoming leaders who uphold the Department of Defense's aim of cultivating an all-encompassing and varied force. Moreover, it is of utmost importance that we give priority to preserving the values of the U.S. military in our recruitment strategies and take active measures to eliminate individuals associated with extremist groups or movements.
