Key House committees advanced parts of the Democrats' $1.9 trillion COVID-aid package, which included an estimated $4 billion for Nevada under a provision that would provide $350 billion to state and local governments.

The $1.9 trillion federal aid bill currently moving through Congress could send $3.9 billion to Nevada, fulfilling longtime pleas from Gov. Steve Sisolak and Carson City leadership for federal help in managing the economic crisis.

Under the so-called American Rescue Plan championed by President Joe Biden, the state would receive around $2.97 billion while local governments would receive around $950 million. The plan could change, though, as it passes through the House of Representatives and U.S. Senate.

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Today, Congressman Steven Horsford delivered remarks on the COVID-19 crisis in America's nursing homes during the Ways and Means Committee markup of President Biden's American Rescue Plan.

In his remarks, Congressman Horsford spoke about the high pandemic mortality rate among nursing home residents, and called for expanded data collection on COVID-19 infections and deaths in these facilities.

WASHINGTON D.C. – Today, Congressman Steven Horsford joined Representatives Rosa DeLauro (CT-03), Suzan DelBene (WA-01), and Ritchie Torres (NY-15), to reintroduce the American Family Act (AFA), legislation to permanently expand and improve the Child Tax Credit (CTC) and make it a dramatically more effective tool for reducing child poverty and supporting families with kids. The American Rescue Plan includes one year of an expanded and improved CTC modeled after the American Family Act.

This legislation would increase the federal supplemental unemployment insurance payment from $300 to $400 for weeks after March 14 and extend the $400 weekly supplemental payment to be paid on top of all types of unemployment insurance payments through October 3, 2021.
