WASHINGTON – Today, Congressman Steven Horsford (NV-04) offered an amendment during the consideration of the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) for Fiscal Year 2024 in the House Armed Services Committee. The amendment secured historic funding for research investment at Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) and other Minority Serving Institutions (MSIs). The amendment had bipartisan support in the committee, and had the support of all the members of the Tri-Caucus that sit on the committee. Horsford issued the following statement:

This month, the United States Supreme Court ruled on the Allen v Milligan case about the Congressional maps drawn in Alabama. Wes Allen, the Secretary of State of Alabama, was sued by Evan Milligan because the maps violated the Voting Rights Act of 1964 by diluting the Black vote, thus denying the Black voters in Alabama a majority-minority Congressional seat.
