Washington, D.C. — As the United Nations considers the impact of climate change at its Climate Action Summit this weekend, young people are taking to the streets in their own environmental protests. Congressman Steven Horsford released the following statement on the protests:
On May 28, 2019, Congressman Horsford spoke at a local press conference to reaffirm his support for the Land Water Conservation Fund (LWCF) that was recently granted $524 million in funding by the House Appropriations Committee. The press conference took place at Kiel Ranch Park, one of the public recreation areas that is funded by the LWCF program.
The people of Nevada have made it clear that they do not want the Yucca Mountain project, and even the President himself acknowledged this during a visit to our state in October 2018. However, despite the wishes of Nevadans, the President's budget proposal includes an allocation of $160 million to restart the licensing process for the Yucca Mountain project.
Steven Horsford demands answers about the President’s proposal to spend $116 million restarting licensing for the Yucca Mountain Nuclear Repository. Congressman Horsford questioned Acting Office of Management Director Russell Vought about the request given the President’s claim in October that he was “inclined to be against” the Yucca Mountain project.

This important bill permanently reauthorizes the Land and Water Conservation Fund, which has provided $40 million for local parks in Nevada and an additional $60 million for our public lands.
