WASHINGTON – Today, on the 32nd anniversary of the death of his father due to gun violence, Congressman Steven Horsford (NV-04) announced that his Break the Cycle of Violence Act (H.R. 5003) reached a new high mark of 112 co-sponsors and committed to achieving a goal of 150 co-sponsors.

WASHINGTON D.C. (KOLO) - U.S. Representative Steven Horsford has introduced a bill he hopes will address the shortage of healthcare workers nationwide.

The Health Providers Training Act would make hospitals eligible for the Health Profession Opportunity Grant Program, which provides temporary assistance for needy families and low-income people for in demand healthcare positions.

Through the program, participants can get higher education, training, and support service needed to get jobs in healthcare.

Former North Las Vegas Mayor John Lee was declared the winner in his race for the Republican nomination for U.S. House in Nevada’s 4th Congressional District.

The Associated Press called the race — the last contested Nevada congressional race to be called — late Wednesday. In unofficial results posted Thursday afternoon, Lee had collected 48.44% of the vote to 45.13% received by David Flippo, his closest opponent.

Lee will face Democratic incumbent Stephen Horsford in the November general election.
