WASHINGTON – This week, Congressman Steven Horsford (NV-04) introduced the Health Providers Training Act to address the critical shortage of healthcare professionals across the country.

“The healthcare worker shortage is a crisis that demands immediate action,” said Congressman Horsford. “The Health Providers Training Act will help hospitals recruit qualified staff by investing in healthcare training. This will equip Nevadans with the necessary skills to fulfill these essential roles.”

President Joe Biden is taking heat from Nevada Republicans and advocates — though for different reasons — and praise from some of Nevada’s Democratic leaders following his announcement on a new policy limiting asylum at the southern border.

The president issued executive actions on Tuesday that will tighten security on the country’s southern border and temporarily shut down the border to asylum seekers attempting to cross the border during surges.

Lawmakers are pushing to expand solar energy to low-income and disadvantaged communities through the “Solar for All” initiative.

The Nevada Clean Energy Fund will receive $156 million from the program to aid in lowering energy bills, reducing pollution, increasing power resiliency, investing in local businesses and creating quality jobs, officials said.

The funds, officials said, are a component of the Greenhouse Gas Reduction Fund — a $27 billion investment to combat the climate crisis from the Biden administration using monies from the Inflation Reduction Act.

A higher education and job training facility is coming to Las Vegas’ Historic Westside.

For now, the site of the College of Southern Nevada’s future Historic Westside Education and Training Center is a vacant lot adjacent to the Historic Westside School.

But officials on Tuesday morning dug into a pile of dirt to signify a major hurdle cleared: an official groundbreaking ceremony.

“We needed higher education in our community,” said Las Vegas Councilman Cedric Crear, who represents the neighborhood. “We needed to say ‘CSN’ on the side of the building.”
