WASHINGTON — Skyrocketing housing prices, waiting lists and competition from institutional investors are keeping working-class Americans from purchasing homes in the nation’s largest metropolitan markets, including Las Vegas, witnesses told a House committee Wednesday.
It's concerning to hear that rental rates in Las Vegas have increased by almost 30% in the past year, especially since our local economy has yet to fully recover. The hospitality industry, which is the main driver of our economy, is still struggling to reach pre-pandemic levels. 7 out of 10 of the most common jobs in Las Vegas don't pay enough to rent a studio apartment, which means that 70% of hospitality workers, such as culinary workers, bartenders, and servers, can't even afford to rent a place of their own, let alone achieve the American dream of owning a home.
WASHINGTON – Today, Congressman Steven Horsford (NV-04), introduced legislation in response to the housing crisis affecting many major metropolitan areas, including Las Vegas. The Housing Oversight and Mitigating Exploitation (HOME) Act of 2022 addresses a trend that is creating artificial hikes in rents and property costs across the country, specifically in underserved communities, affecting Black and Latino families the most, and hurting single mothers trying to provide for their children.

People using the interchange at Interstate 15 and Tropicana Avenue to get to Allegiant Stadium or T-Mobile Arena will have an easier time of it in years to come.
NORTH LAS VEGAS, NV – Today, Congressman Steven Horsford welcomed U.S. Department of Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg for the launch of the I-15/Tropicana Interchange Construction Project and a tour of Carpenters International Training Center.
NORTH LAS VEGAS, Nev. (KSNV) — A new liquid hydrogen production and logistics facility has officially opened its doors in North Las Vegas.
Air Liquide describes the facility as its largest in the world and would make Nevada a leader in hydrogen energy production.
NORTH LAS VEGAS, NV – Today, Congressman Steven Horsford voted for legislation to crack down on price gouging by oil companies and bring down costs for Nevadan families. The Consumer Fuel Price Gouging Prevention Act takes critical steps to combat excessive price increases, empowering the federal government to outlaw artificially high fuel prices. It would also empower the Federal Trade Commission to pursue market manipulators with larger penalties and improve market transparency.
