WASHINGTON D.C.— Today, Congressman Steven Horsford issued the following statement on the House vote to grant Secretary-designate General Lloyd Austin a waiver to serve as Secretary of Defense. If confirmed by the Senate, Secretary-designate General Austin would be the first African American leader of the Defense Department.
Today, I rise to speak in favor of granting a waiver for retired Army General Lloyd Austin and his historic nomination to serve as the 28th Secretary of Defense, making him the first African-American in U.S. history to hold this position. Over four decades, Secretary-designate Austin served our nation with unwavering dedication in the United States Army before retiring. Moreover, he will serve as a leader and role model for our courageous service members.
Washington, DC -- Congressman Steven Horsford voted in favor of H.R. 133 – Consolidated Appropriations Act, 2021, an omnibus spending package to responsibly fund the government and invest in critical priorities.
For now, more acres of the Desert National Wildlife Refuge as well as other public and Tribal lands in Nevada have been spared from military bombing and destruction.

Washington, DC -- Today, Congressman Steven Horsford (NV-04) voted in favor of the passage of the joint Fiscal Year 2021 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA). Congressman Horsford led the charge to ensure the military funding bill did not allow for the expansion of the Nevada Test and Training Range (NTTR) into the sensitive public lands surrounding the installation, most notably the Desert National Wildlife Refuge.

Washington, D.C. – Congressman Steven Horsford (D-NV) released the following statement after the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) announcement that it would extend the deadline to register for an economic impact payment (EIP) to November 21, 2020.
Washington, D.C. -- Today, Congressman Steven Horsford (NV-04) voted to pass the Delivering for America Act, H.R. 8015, to prohibit the U.S. Postal Service from implementing any operational changes that would obstruct prompt, reliable service. The Postal Service has been a lifeline for veterans and seniors who need medication and rural communities in Nevada's Fourth District, including White Pine, Lincoln, Nye, Esmeralda, Mineral, and Lyon counties, who depend on mail delivery for everyday needs, especially during the COVID-19 crisis.
